Sacramento City Cemetery

Fence post
It may sound strange but I recently took a trip down to the old Sacramento City Cemetery for a few photo ops.  This cemetery is really pretty neat to walk around and they are known for their spectacular rose gardens.  Unfortunately, the roses were not much in bloom yet, however I got a few shots of some other flowers around .  Here's a few of the shots I got...Enjoy!

Gravestone

The Wisteria was really pretty and in full bloom.

I really liked the soft light coming through these flowers.

Hello Old Friend(s)!

Well, hello!  It's been quite some time, however with the looming rainy weather we have been experiencing lately I decided the timing was right for me to resurrect this thing.  :)  So many things to share, so little time...so I'll pick up with my latest "project" and we'll pretend to be all caught up!

I finally saved my pennies and made the leap into DSLR photography.  I LOVE my new camera and am utterly obsessed with viewing everything as a photograph.  Since I've had so much fun with my camera already, I'll share a few shots from around my little area and you can rest assured there will be many more to come.  I definitely have an affinity for macro and abstract photography so you won't see many landscapes or people in my pictures but I'll try to throw in a few of those from time to time as I explore more.  One day I will also have enough pennies saved for a new computer and photo editing software but until then these are just the raw un-edited files.

Here are some of my faves so far:

Sacramento's iconic Tower Bridge

You can find more on my Flickr page, here. Any comments and constructive criticism welcome as I am learning!

Don't Let the Pigeon...

Spring is definitely "Spring-ing" here in Sunny Sacramento! :)  You may be familiar with the children's books, Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus and Don't Let the Pigeon Stay Up Late (I think that is one of the titles) and other various pigeon adventures. Anyways, since I spend way too much time with children when I first saw what was on my back porch, those books immediately came to mind. Imagine my surprise when I was doing some Spring cleaning yesterday and opened my back door to find a pigeons nest and a single little egg waiting for me! The mom and dad flew off but stayed near-by when I opened the door so I knew it was a pigeons home. I tried not to interrupt because I wanted them to come back and take care of their baby, but I didn't want to get dive bombed so I discretely took a few pics and let them be. And do you know what happened next...I came home from work today to find ANOTHER egg! Mom and dad are nowhere in sight so I hope they have not been scared away and abandoned their family! Stay tuned...we may have two babies in another 18 days, I'm going to call this Mission: Don't Let the Pigeon Abandon It's Babies! HA! :)

Davis Turkey Trot 2009

This year I participated in the Davis Turkey Trot 10K, and am very pleased to say that not only did I finish I came in under my goal time! My coworker and another friend decided to participate as well.

And we're off! It was a cool 47degrees outside, but I was warmed up within the first mile...only 5.2 more to go! I wish I could have gotten a picture of it, but there was a cool Asian drum "band" somewhere along the first mile, performing to keep everyone excited.

Official chip time 1:20:38.5, 13:00/mile! Yay! Also, thanks mom for coming out and cheering me on, I had a great time with you!
